MAECTITE™ chemical treatment is a treatment process to reduce leachability of lead and heavy metals
The MAECTITE™ process chemically fixates heavy metals to lower solubility forms that are resistant to environmental degradation. Specifically, MAECTITE™ chemically bonds leachable metal species into hardened mineral forms, primarily phosphate minerals known as Apatites.
A variety of contaminated waste matrices have successfully been treated. The process is adaptable to various site conditions. With over a thousand treatability studies completed, MAECTITE™ has been applied to and has successfully treated over three million tons of contaminated material. The process has been utilized on over 325 Sevenson projects in 43 states within all 10 USEPA Regions.
As part of our MAECTITE™ support services, Sevenson provides clients with in-house treatability testing, regulatory guidance, and disposal planning. The process has been rigorously reviewed by regulatory agencies and was accepted into both the USEPA Superfund Innovative Technology Program and the USEPA Prequalified Offerors Procurement Strategy. Performance standards achieved by Sevenson include:
Incorporating the MAECTITE™ process into Sevenson’s remediation projects has significantly reduced disposal costs to our clients. While treatment costs generally fall within a low to moderate range, overall cost-effectiveness depends on site-specific factors such as treatability study results, optimal reagent dosage, material handling characteristics, site access, and transportation and disposal requirements.
