Emmell’s Septic Landfill is a 38-acre former septic waste and sludge disposal landfill in a rural area of Atlantic County, NJ that accepted unregulated waste from 1967 to 1979, resulting in contamination of the regional drinking water aquifer. Primary contaminants of concern are vinyl chloride, trichloroethylene, and 1,1-dichloroethene. The site was added to the NPL in 1999.

Sevenson completed the design and construction of a groundwater extraction, treatment, and surface discharge system to remove VOCs/SVOCs from a contaminated groundwater plume. We excavated, characterized, transported, and disposed of approximately 22,500 CY of non-TSCA/non-RCRA and TSCA PCB contaminated material discovered during GWTP construction. A permanent building was constructed to house the GWTP components, and a pipeline was constructed to connect extraction wells to the GWTP. Sevenson upgraded the 150-GPM GWTP to treat water at a rate of 375-GPM and expanded the recharge basin that treated water was discharged into. Once the GWTP was fully installed and operational, Sevenson conducted long term operation and maintenance of the system.
