2023 WEDA Safety Award
Pledger Creek Remediation Project
Project Manager Charlie Stein accepting the award
The WEDA Safety Commission was honored to present Sevenson Environmental Services’ Pledger Creek Remediation Project with the Safety Excellence Award for a Dredging Project. Sevenson cited communication – early, often, and throughout the process – as a primary key to success on their Pledger Creek Remediation project. Along with implementing 3-day weekends twice a month to combat fatigue, Sevenson implemented numerous safety efforts to combat the continuously fluctuating high-hazard conditions and maintain zero recordables on their project. WEDA and the Safety Commission were pleased to present the award to Sevenson for their outstanding contributions to the dredging industry in the name of safety.

2023 WEDA “Dredger on Deck” Award
Mr. Wayne Kostuk – General Superintendent Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc.
Wayne accepting the award
Mr. Kostuk is the first recipient of this annual award, which is meant to honor on-site operating and/or supervisory personnel overseeing dredging operations. These are the people who spend much of their time on project sites, i.e., “boots on the ground or boat”. Wayne has over 40 years of experience working on varied and complex remediation projects that began with his work as a surveyor for Sevenson on the Love Canal – the first entry on the CERCLA Superfund list – in 1980. Following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, Wayne is a third-generation employee at Sevenson and was a key contributor in the transformation of Sevenson from a heavy civil contractor to a remedial contracting firm. Another part of Wayne’s and Sevenson’s overall success is safety. In the last 10 years, Mr. Kostuk has assisted in the safe supervision of more than 750K workhours on complex dredging and sediment capping projects with differing site conditions impacted by a range of contaminants of concern.
